An Illinois water processing plant and a Pennsylvania-based heavy equipment manufacturer were negligent in the death of a man killed during a construction project, a lawsuit filed by family members claims. According to the lawsuit Jose Meza was crushed to death after a safety harness became entangled in the skid steer loader he was operating at the Calumet Water Reclamation Plant. The lawsuit seeks at least $50,000 in damages.

The LA Times is reporting a temporary agency has settled a workers compensation fraud lawsuit filed by the California Insurance Commission for $20 million.  The Insurance Commission alleged the temporary agency, Staffing Services Inc., misrepresented the number of its employees and their job duties in order to pay less in insurance premiums.  The regulators filed the lawsuit in November 2008 and the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office prosecuted the case.

According to the Knoxville News-Sentinel, a wrongful death lawsuit has been filed on behalf of the family of one teenager highway construction worker killed in Tennessee.   The highway construction worker was killed in November of 2009 while working on the median of Interstate 75.   The construction worker was struck by a pickup truck driven by an employee of T and T Trucking when the pickup truck went off the roadway through the construction zone, struck two workers and hit several fence posts before stopping over 100 yards after the initial impact.
